First, do no harm.  The products that are made and the processes that make them and the resources that they come from will do no harm to the planet, both the biosphere that occupies it and the geosphere that sustains all living things. There will be no harm to the workers obtaining the feedstocks and transforming them, to the consumers using them, to the communities and populations, human and non-human alike, that may be exposed to them. There will be as much thought and care put into the consequences of chemistry as there is into the design and invention of the chemistry.
